A great wirte up for this upcoming school year....enjoy
The Busy Homeschool Mom
I made myself a list of things I wish I had known when I started homeschooling all those years ago...
Education is discipleship. And because of that ...
Curriculum should not ever become the "main" thing.
Character training always comes before curriculum.
When we're frustrated and on the verge of burnout, it's time to take a step back and reevaluate what we're doing. His yoke is easy...
Marriage needs to consistently come ... before mothering.
I'm homeschooling, not trying to do "school at home". There really is a difference.
Sometimes, baking cookies is better than math. And it will often accomplish the same thing with better results. :)
Homeschooling through high school is not as scary as "they" say... and totally worth every minute.
Teenagers need their parents more than they let on.
It really will go by as fast as "they" say it will so now is a good time to think about what I want the homeschool years to accomplish. What kind of children do I want to raise?
Sow good things into the lives of the kids now ... reap good things later.
Our kids will not do what we say nearly as often as they will do what we do. Model good things.
Apologize.
Don't be afraid to say "this is not working" and start looking for something that will work.
It's okay to ask for help.
Being real is better than pretending to have it all together.
Never leave Sharpie markers unattended.
Laugh more.

A Day Into The Life Of A Muslim Wife In Saudi Arabia 1/2. Islam Honours ...
We are studying Saudi Arabia next and I have to say this will be very difficult. The treatment of women in this country really bothers me.

Franklin and Science and Dinosaurs....OH MY!
Last year we tried to read a book for school called Dinosaurs of Eden. That went over like a lead balloon. The Franklin Institute named after and for Benjamin Franklin is in the city and not a far drive from my house. We had to go see the dinosaur exhibit.
We all learned a lot, yes there will be a little quiz tomorrow in school just to make sure we learned some basics of dinosaurs. It is incredibly difficult for little minds to fully wrap around millions of years. It's hard for me to as an adult.
The Triassic Period (250-208 Million Years Ago)
In this period of time all the continents formed one gigantic land mass called Pangaea and there was one gigantic ocean called Panthalassa.
The Jurassic Period (208-144 Million Years Ago)
During this time our big land mass separated in two forming Gondwana in the South and Laurasia in the North. It is believed to be rainy during this time, hot and humid. The perfect conditions for plants and greens to grow.
The Cretaceous Period (144-65 Million Years Ago)
It is believed during this period the continents we have now were formed. Not formed but became the shape they are now. (North and South America, etc).
It is believed that an asteroid made impact with the earth. More can read about this here
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/extinction/dinosaurs/asteroid.html
I as a Christian do not believe in evolution. I 100% believe in Creation. I do believe that God told Adam & Eve to replenish. Re..... I do strongly believe that dinosaurs are not a "myth".
Here are the dinosaurs that were a part of the exhibit. They basically follow the time periods above so I will put a "T" "J" or "C" beside their names.
Dilophosaurus "T"
Plateosaurus "T"
Lufengosaurus "T"
Bellusaurus "J"
Mamenchisaurus "J"
Brachiosaurus "J"
Amargasaurus "C"
Monotophosaurus "C"
Tuoliangosaurus "C"
Giganotosaurus "C"
Mapusaurus "C"
Some randoms:
1. Meat eaters not as large as vegetarians.
2. The meat eating dinosaurs outlived the vegetarians.

Europe- Norway
I am going to try to get back to blogging about our homeschool experiences.
Right now, we are tackling cursive, really pushing through math with a new program, Singapore and I am very pleased with her progress, and "visiting" some countries in Europe. We finished Norway two weeks ago and about to finish France. Next we are moving to Germany. I will post some recipes we tried from Norway and like:
Norwegian Potato Soup
4 med potatoes
1 onion
fresh parsley
salt to taste
pepper to taste
2 cups milk
2 tbsp butter
Cut potatoes and put in med pot with chopped onion. Put in enough water to cover the vegetables. Boil 20 mins or until potatoes are tender. Mash potatoes and onion in the water, do not drain. Add milk gradually with butter and parsley. Boil another 5 mins. Garnish with croutons and parsley.
We also tried Sweet Milk Pancakes. I will upload that one later.
